Description: Blue Water, a joint venture between Veolia and John Holland, is building the desalination plant at Kurnell, Sydney and constructing the sea tunnels that connect the intake and outlet structures 300m offshore in the Tasman Sea. Blue Water JV approached SD Environmental Management Pty Ltd to develop and deliver a one-day environmental awareness training course for its staff and contractors, focusing on the relevant environmental legislative responsibilities of the organisations.
Scope:SD Environmental Management Pty Ltd was engaged to develop a training program which was to provide the following outcomes to course participants:
- Understand responsibilities under environmental legislation
- Ensure compliance with POEO Act and licence conditions
- Understand the powers of council and State government officers in implementing the POEO Act
- Understand the requirements and exemptions of Part 3A projects
- Review environmental hazards and understand the environmental risk assessment process
- Ensure Due Diligence through an effective EMS
The training course was designed to be very interactive with a range of group discussions and activities held throughout the day. Relevant case studies of prosecutions under the POEO Act within the building and construction sector were also provided. The course was well received by staff and management and stimulated extensive discussion among participants.
