Beachwatch Training Course Assessment and Management of Microbial Risks in Recreational Waters
In May 2009, the new National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Guidelines for Managing Risks in Recreational Water were adopted in New South Wales. This has resulted in a number of key changes to the methodology for assessing microbial quality of recreational waters.
SD Environmental Management has been commissioned by DECCW to develop and run Beachwatch training courses during August 2009 to assist local councils with the implementation of the new NHMRC Guidelines. The course is free of charge and includes morning and afternoon tea, lunch and training materials.
A one day course will be offered in Sydney to provide an overview of the new guidelines, risk assessments, beach suitability grades and the development of management and incident response plans.
A two-day comprehensive course will be offered at regional locations. This course will cover monitoring program design, risk assessments, beach suitability grades, reporting, development of management and incident response plans and a field work component.
